This neighborhood is mostly a residential area in the southwestern part of the city. With the establishment of roads in the 19th Century, residential development began, as well as some industry, notably the Gorham Manufacturing Company, whose employees--many silversmiths and jewelry designers--settled in the area. In the 1870s a reservoir was built, the first great engineering project of Providence, which also became a catalyst for residential development.

For further information on Reservoir, consult the Providence Plan website.
